Electric mobility innovations such as e-scooters, e-bikes, and electric motorcycles have revolutionized transportation worldwide. While these vehicles are often viewed as recreational toys in the US market, a broader perspective reveals significant advancements in the development of lightweight, two-wheeled machines.

One example of this progress is the collaboration between Ghanaian firm Kofa and Chinese e-mobility company TAILG, resulting in the creation of the Jidi electric motorcycle. Designed specifically to withstand the challenging conditions and climate of Africa, the Jidi is a compact and durable vehicle that offers impressive performance, range, and safety.

The Jidi is powered by Kofa’s Kore2 battery, providing a range of 100 kilometers (62 miles) and featuring a quick-swappable design at the company’s Swap & Go stations. This technology allows for seamless battery replacement in just 30 seconds, similar to Gogoro’s battery-swapping system for Smartscooters.

Equipped with a 72V mid-mounted motor, the TAILG Jidi Powered By Kofa can reach a top speed of 85 KPH (about 53 miles per hour), offering performance comparable to a 125cc gas-powered motorbike. The Jidi also includes adjustable drive modes for optimizing performance based on terrain and rider preferences.

In addition to its performance capabilities, the Jidi is designed to reduce operating costs by up to 30 percent compared to traditional gas-powered motorcycles, while also minimizing carbon emissions. The motorcycle features a rugged aesthetic with dual-sport tires, an exposed steel frame, and a simple suspension system for durability.

Practical features of the Jidi include a long bench saddle for carrying passengers or cargo, USB charging ports, LED lights, and a CBS for enhanced safety. The motorcycle is engineered for longevity and ease of maintenance, allowing users to perform basic upkeep with standard tools.

Although pricing for the Jidi electric motorcycle has not been announced, Kofa emphasizes cost savings of up to 30 percent compared to gasoline-powered alternatives. This suggests that the Jidi will be competitively priced, making electric mobility more accessible to a wider audience.
