Naked Bikes: The Versatile Two-Wheelers

Naked bikes are known for their versatility, easily customizable for various types of riding with the addition of a few key accessories and upgrades. Straight out of the box, they are great for commuting while also offering a sporty feel for twisty roads or even track riding.

Looking at the Asian market, naked bikes with smaller engines are gaining popularity, especially among enthusiasts seeking a practical yet sporty daily commuter. Models like the Honda CB150R, Suzuki GSX-S150, and Yamaha MT-15 are highly sought after in countries like Thailand and Indonesia. Speaking of which, Yamaha has recently refreshed its premium entry-level naked bike, the MT-15, in Thailand.

The Yamaha MT series has been a hit worldwide since the introduction of the FZ-09 (MT-09) and FZ-07 in 2013. Renamed to MT-09 and MT-07 in 2017, these bikes have set the standard in the naked bike segment. The MT series, short for Master of Torque, is known for its powerful engines and class-leading performance.

The Yamaha MT-15 is powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine with Yamaha's Variable Valve Actuation technology. Producing 19 horsepower and 14.7 Nm of torque, it is one of the strongest bikes in its class. The MT-15 features a six-speed gearbox with an assist-slipper clutch for smooth power delivery.

Notable features of the 2024 Yamaha MT-15 include inverted forks, preload-adjustable rear monoshock, and front and rear disc brakes. While lacking ABS in its Thai specification, the MT-15 is offered in Metallic Grey, Racing Blue, and Matt Black colors at an attractive price starting at 101,000 baht (approximately $2,794).
